How do I welcome every new sign-up without writing any code?

The Welcome row, already there

Open Email, under Lifecycle, and the first of the eight lifecycle emails is Welcome on signup — an automation and a template, paused, already worded. It answers one moment: somebody signed up and has not been welcomed yet. Nobody has to write it, because it is already written.

It needs Kicklace to know a sign-up happened before it can welcome one, and that is either of two things: connect Clerk or Kinde, or have your own server post the signup event itself. Either way the row is ready — Kicklace has no third idea of what a sign-up is.

Nothing about who it sends from needs setting up first. Until you add your own domain, every email — this one included — leaves from Kicklace's own shared address with your workspace's name in front of it, so there is nothing to configure before the first sign-up arrives.

Set it up

1. Open Email, under Lifecycle (or Automations → Lifecycle).
2. Open Welcome on signup and read what it says — it is a draft in your own words to change, not a fixed template.
3. Press Activate. It asks once more, in its own words, and switching it on from here is two clicks.
4. Before a real sign-up ever sees it, send it to yourself: Setup's fourth step, Your first email, has a Send it to me button that sends the exact welcome a new sign-up would get, to your own address.

What it does not do

It does not send until you switch it on, and opening it to read is not the same as activating it. It does not need a domain, a DNS record or a Resend account to start — that is only for sending at your own volume later. And it does not invent a sign-up: until Kicklace has heard signup from Clerk, Kinde or your own code, there is nobody to welcome yet.
