How do I email one customer from their record?

One customer, and the engaged rule

Every person's record carries an Email button, and it opens the same editor every email in Kicklace uses: say what you want to say in one field — dictate it or type it — and press Next. Kicklace shapes those words into a subject and a body in your own style: it reorders and tightens, and keeps every point you made, never adding a figure, a link, a name or a promise your own words did not carry.

Before any of that, it asks the engaged question: has this person bought, signed up, written in, replied, or joined one of your lists? Somebody who has done none of those is not a greyed-out button — the dialog shows the sentence saying why, and the two ways out: put them on a list with the words they agreed to, or wait until they get in touch.

Once it can send, the dialog shows exactly what the person will see under the box — "You are getting this because you signed up for North Shelf," or bought, wrote in, replied, or asked to hear from you, whichever is true — with no unsubscribe link, because this is not a list. A reply lands with you: Reply-To on the email is yours, so an answer comes back to be read rather than into an address nobody watches.

Set it up

1. Open the person's record and press Email.
2. Start from a template, or write it yourself.
3. Say what you want to say — talk it through or type it — and press Next.
4. Read what comes back, check the sentence saying what they will see, and press Send email.

What it does not do

It never lets you write to somebody who has not been in touch — there is no override, only a list and its consent, or waiting. It never adds a fact your own words did not carry: every figure, name and link in the shaped draft is checked against what you wrote before it is ever shown to you. And it is never a list send: no unsubscribe link goes with it, only a link to their other lists where they are already on one. Email is the whole of it.
