Best lifecycle email tools for a small SaaS in 2026
Six lifecycle email tools for a small SaaS compared: Loops, Customer.io, Userlist, Encharge, Kit and Kicklace. Who each suits, with prices as of October 2026.
How to read this
Lifecycle emails follow what a person does with your product: the welcome, the nudge when they stall, the thank-you when they pay, the note when a card fails. Six tools are below, in no order of preference. Each entry says who it suits and what it costs to start, as of October 2026, from the company's own site.
We make Kicklace, so read its entry knowing that. It is written from Kicklace's own docs, limits included.
Loops
Suits: SaaS founders who want a simple, email-only tool and will write their own emails.
Loops describes itself as an email platform for SaaS teams, with marketing, product and transactional email in one place. It lists integrations with Stripe, Supabase, Clerk, Segment and Zapier.
Starts at: a free plan for up to 1,000 contacts and 4,000 sends per 30 days, with a Powered by Loops footer. Growth is $49 a month, priced by subscribed contacts. See Loops vs Customer.io, or Kicklace as a Loops alternative.
Customer.io
Suits: teams that will run many journeys across email, push, SMS and in-app messages.
It covers the most channels of the six, and is built for marketing and growth teams that run lifecycle programs. It also lists an AI Agent that can build an automation from a prompt.
Starts at: no free plan on its pricing page. There is a trial, and a free year for startups that raised under $10M. Essentials is $100 a month with 5,000 profiles and 1 million emails. Premium starts at $1,000 a month, billed yearly. More in Customer.io alternative.
Userlist
Suits: B2B SaaS whose customers are teams or companies.
Userlist is built around companies as well as users: it keeps separate segments for each, and a workflow can start from a company event. It sends email and in-app messages from visual workflows.
Starts at: no free plan. There is a 14-day trial that asks for a card, and companies that raised under $500k get 50% off the first 12 months. Prices rise with the number of users; its pricing page has the figures. More in Userlist alternative.
Encharge
Suits: SaaS and product-led teams that want emails triggered by what users do, built in a visual flow builder.
Events come in through its API or Segment, and data from Stripe and HubSpot can feed the flows.
Starts at: paid plans priced by the number of people you email; its pricing page has the current figures. More in Encharge alternative.
Kit
Suits: creators and newsletter writers, and a SaaS founder whose main email is a newsletter.
Kit, formerly ConvertKit, is built around growing and selling to an audience. Its automations start from a form signup, a tag, a custom field change or a purchase.
Starts at: free for up to 10,000 subscribers, with unlimited broadcasts, forms and landing pages, but no sequences or visual automations. Creator adds them and is $39 a month for up to 1,000 subscribers. More in Kit alternative.
Kicklace
Suits: founders who build their own product and would rather not write the emails.
Paste your website's address and Kicklace reads what you sell, proposes the stages your customers go through, and writes the first emails for each stage in your voice. People sit on a Lifecycle map, placed by what they did. Sign-ups come from Clerk or Kinde, payments from Stripe, deploys from Vercel, or one line from your own server. Nothing sends until you switch it on.
Its limits: it is the newest tool on this list, so it has the least track record. It sends email only. It sends up to 50 a day until you verify your own domain and 500 a day after, so it is not built for a newsletter to a big list.
Starts at: free up to 1,000 contacts, sending from its own address with your name on it. Your own domain is part of Starter, $25 a month. See pricing, or try it on your own site in the demo.
Also worth a look
MailerLite is a low-cost newsletter and campaign tool with a free plan for up to 250 subscribers. Brevo adds SMS and a CRM beside email, with a free plan of 300 emails a day. Both are general email tools rather than SaaS-only ones.
A quick way to choose

- Push, SMS and in-app too: Customer.io.
- Customers that are companies with teams: Userlist.
