Kit (ConvertKit) alternative for SaaS lifecycle emails
Kit, formerly ConvertKit, is built for creators and newsletters. Kicklace is for SaaS founders: it reads your site and writes your lifecycle emails.
The short answer
Kit, formerly ConvertKit, is built for creators: people who grow an audience, write to it and sell to it. Its pricing page is written for creator businesses, and for that job it is a strong tool.
A SaaS has a different job. The emails that matter follow what a person did in your product: they signed up and went quiet, they paid, their card failed, their trial is ending. Kicklace is built around those moments, and it writes the emails for you from what it reads on your website.
If you write a newsletter, stay with Kit. If you build a product and the lifecycle emails never get written because you are busy building, try Kicklace.
Where Kit is the better pick
- You write a newsletter. Kit is made for sending to an audience, with forms and landing pages. As of October 2026 its free plan covers up to 10,000 subscribers, with unlimited broadcasts, forms and landing pages.
- You sell to your audience. Kit automations can start when someone buys one of your products.
- You have a big list. Kicklace is not a bulk newsletter tool. It only emails people who asked or who got in touch first, and through its own sender it sends up to 500 a day once your domain is verified.
Where Kicklace is different
- It writes the first draft of everything. Paste your website's address and Kicklace reads what you sell, then writes your welcome, your nudge for people who signed up and stalled, and the rest, in your voice. See it on your own site in the demo, with no sign-up.
- One map of your customers. Every person sits on a Lifecycle map at the stage they actually reached: signed up, activated, paying. Where they stand is worked out from what they did, never set by hand.
- It hears your product. Sign-ups from Clerk or Kinde, payments from Stripe, deploys from Vercel, or one line from your own server with the kicklace package.
- Nothing to set up before your first send. Until you verify your own domain, Kicklace sends with your name on it from its own address, up to 50 a day. No DNS records on day one.
- Nothing sends until you switch it on, and before you do, Kicklace shows who would have got it over the last 30 days.
How the automations differ
In Kit, an automation starts from a form or landing page signup, a tag, a change to a custom field, or a purchase. That fits a creator well. For a SaaS, you would pass what your app knows into Kit yourself, as tags or fields, and then write each email by hand.
On Kit's free plan, email sequences and visual automations are not included. They start on the Creator plan.
That is the gap Kicklace fills. The stages and the emails exist before you have built anything. You read them, change what you like and switch them on.
Price
As of October 2026, Kit's free plan covers up to 10,000 subscribers but not sequences or visual automations. Creator, which adds both, starts at $39 a month for up to 1,000 subscribers.
Kicklace is free up to 1,000 contacts, sending from its own address with your name on it. Your own domain is part of Starter, $25 a month. The details are on pricing.
Which one to pick
Pick Kit if your emails are mostly a newsletter and offers to the audience you built. Pick Kicklace if your emails follow what people do in your product, and you want them written from what your site and product say.
If you are weighing other tools too, Loops vs Customer.io and the best lifecycle email tools for a small SaaS lay them side by side.
FAQ
Can I keep Kit for my newsletter and use Kicklace for product emails?
Yes. They do different jobs and do not need each other. Nothing links the two, so each keeps its own list of people.
Can I bring my Kit subscribers across?
Export them from Kit as a CSV file and choose it under Your people. They come in as contacts, and nothing sends because of an import. Kicklace emails a list only to people who agreed, with the words they agreed to kept beside them, so a list needs that sentence. Moving from another CRM has the steps.
Do I need to write any code?
No. One script tag on your site is enough to start, and Stripe, Clerk and Vercel connect without code. If you want to say what people do in your app, the kicklace package is one line from your server.
Free up to 1,000 contacts.
