A Userlist alternative that writes your emails for you

Userlist is email automation for SaaS, strong on company accounts. Kicklace reads your site and writes your lifecycle emails for you, free up to 1,000 contacts.

The short answer

Userlist and Kicklace are both made for software products, which makes this a closer comparison than most. Userlist is a full email platform for SaaS that you build your campaigns in: visual workflows, segments, broadcasts, in-app messages and transactional email. Kicklace is for a founder who would rather not build them. It reads your website, works out the stages your customers go through, and writes the emails for each stage in your voice.

If your product is B2B and your emails depend on what a whole company does, Userlist is the better pick. If you are a small team that wants the usual lifecycle emails written and running, Kicklace is the lighter route.

Where Userlist is the better pick

  • Company-level automation. As of October 2026, Userlist's site says it has been doing company-level automation since 2017: workflows that start from a company's events and choose recipients by role, with separate segments for users and companies.
  • More to build with. It lists visual workflows that send emails and in-app messages, update properties, create events and call webhooks. Its Professional plan adds A/B split testing and conversion goals.
  • In-app messages and transactional email from its Basic plan up, beside broadcasts and snippets.
  • Help from people. Every new customer gets a 60-minute roadmapping call, and support is handled by engineers on all plans.

Where Kicklace is different

  • It starts from your website. Paste your site's address and Kicklace reads what you sell, what it is built with and what forms it has. Then it writes your welcome, your nudge for people who signed up and stalled, and the rest. See it on your own site in the demo, with no sign-up.
  • One map, no workflows to draw. Your customers sit on a Lifecycle map at the stage they reached, worked out from what they did. Each stage carries its emails, and Kicklace drafts them.
  • Nothing sends until you switch it on. Before you do, Kicklace shows who would have got it over the last 30 days.
  • Nothing to set up before your first send. Until you verify your own domain, Kicklace sends with your name on it from its own address, up to 50 a day.
  • It hears your stack. Sign-ups from Clerk or Kinde, payments from Stripe, deploys from Vercel, or one line from your own server with the kicklace package.

Kicklace does know about organizations, the company or team your people belong to, and it reads what a company pays. Its sequences run on a person, at their stage.

Price

As of October 2026, Userlist has Basic, Professional and Enterprise plans. Prices rise with the number of users, and it counts all users, not only active ones, at the high point of the last 30 days. Basic and Professional have a 14-day free trial that asks for a card up front. Annual billing saves 20%, and new accounts that have raised under $500k in total get 50% off the first 12 months. Read its pricing page for the monthly figures.

Kicklace is free up to 1,000 contacts, sending from its own address with your name on it. Your own domain is part of Starter, $25 a month. The details are on pricing.

Which one to pick

Pick Userlist if you sell to companies and want automation that follows the account, or you want a team that helps you plan and build your campaigns. Pick Kicklace if you want the lifecycle emails your product should already be sending, written for you, so you can get back to building. The onboarding sequence for the first two weeks is a good place to start. For another tool that sends the emails you write yourself, see the Loops comparison.

FAQ

Can I move from Userlist to Kicklace?

If you can export your people as a CSV file, yes. Bring it in under Your people. They come in as contacts, and nothing sends because of the import. Moving from another CRM has the steps. Then connect Stripe, Clerk or your own server so people move along the map as they sign up and pay.

Does Kicklace have A/B testing or in-app messages?

No. Kicklace sends email, and a sequence is made of emails, waits, notes to you and tasks for you. If you need A/B tests or in-app messages, Userlist is the better pick.

Do I need to write any code?

No. One script tag on your site is enough to start, and Stripe, Clerk and Vercel connect without code. If you want to say what people do in your app, the kicklace package is one line from your server.
