The email

You're on the list

Hi {{first_name}}, Thanks for joining. You're on the list, and you'll hear from [Product] when there's something to tell.

{{first_name}} is each person’s first name. If your tool uses another tag, swap it in.

Subject lines

  • You're on the listin the email above
  • You're on the [Product] waitlist
  • Thanks for joining the [Product] waitlist
  • You're on the list for [Product]
  • I saved your spot on the [Product] list
  • What happens next with [Product]

Why it works

A waitlist is a promise to be in touch, and this is the first time you keep it. Somebody gave you their address a minute ago, and an email that arrives right away tells them it worked and that a person is behind it.

It also gives them something to find in their inbox later, so when the next email comes weeks on, the name on it is one they recognise.

Make it yours

  • Say what the product does in a few words. Somebody who joined on impulse should know what they signed up for.
  • Say what they will hear and roughly when. If you do not have a date, say that instead of guessing one.
  • Send it from your own name, with an address that takes replies.

Write yours from your URL

Paste your site's address and the generator writes your welcome, onboarding, thank-you and failed payment emails from it.

Where it goes

On your Lifecycle map this email hangs off the Joined Waitlist stage, which takes its name from your list. It is the only email there.

How Kicklace sends it

On your Lifecycle map, a waitlist is a list, and a list has a welcome email that goes the moment somebody joins. On an empty list, Write for me writes it in your voice, and you change whatever you like. People join through a form on your site that Kicklace hears, or a form Kicklace hosts for you (Your website and its forms has the steps). Every sign-up keeps the exact sentence the person agreed to, word for word, and a sign-up without that sentence is refused.

Nothing sends until you switch it on, and you can send yourself a test first. Replies go to your own email address, and Kicklace never answers one by itself.

Questions

What should a waitlist email say?

That they are on the list, what the product is in a sentence, and what they will hear from you next. Anything beyond that can wait for the next email.

What is an email waiting list?

A list of addresses from people who asked to hear when your product is ready. It has one promise, news about the product, so keep what you send to that and it stays a list people are glad to be on. The waitlist emails guide goes through what to send after the first one.

How soon should I send it?

Right away, while the page they joined from is still open. Kicklace sends a list's welcome the moment somebody joins.
