The email

[Product]To a new customer

Hi {{first_name}}, Thank you for choosing [Product]. If there's anything you need, reply to this email.

{{first_name}} is each person’s first name. If your tool uses another tag, swap it in.

Subject lines

  • Thank you, {{first_name}}in the email above
  • Thanks for choosing [Product]
  • A thank you from the person behind [Product]
  • You're all set, {{first_name}}
  • Thank you for subscribing to [Product]
  • Thanks for your first [Product] payment

Why it works

Right after somebody pays they have made up their mind, and they do not yet know what happens next. A short thank-you from you tells them in a human way that it worked, and it names you as the person to write to.

It is not a receipt and should not try to be one. A receipt records the payment. This email is from you.

Make it yours

  • Say what they bought in your words, if the subject does not already.
  • Add one next step if there is one, such as inviting a teammate, and keep it to one.
  • Keep the line that invites a reply.

Write yours from your URL

Paste your site's address and the generator writes this email for your product, in your site's own voice.

Where it goes

On your Lifecycle map this email hangs off the Paying stage. It is the only email there.

  1. Thank youRight away, when they first pay

Beside the email, a step puts a note to you: “A new customer”.

How Kicklace sends it

Connect Stripe under Settings, Connections, with one restricted key and no code (Stripe has the steps). A payment moves the person to the Paying stage, or post a purchase event from your own server. The email goes when they arrive there, and a note to you goes with it, so you hear about a new customer as it happens. Kicklace only reads Stripe: it never charges anybody and never changes a customer, a price or a payment. The payment events are in the Stripe events library.

Kicklace writes a first version in your voice from what it reads on your site, and you change whatever you like. Nothing sends until you switch it on. Before you do, it shows who would have got it over the last 30 days, and you can send yourself a test. Each person gets it once.

Questions

Is a thank you email the same as a receipt?

A receipt records the payment and a thank-you comes from a person, so they do different jobs and you can send both.

Should I send a thank you email for every payment?

Only for the first payment. The email goes to somebody arriving at the Paying stage, which happens once, so a renewal does not send it again.

What is the note to me?

The sequence has a second step, a note to you that says a new customer arrived. It is how you hear about a payment without opening Stripe.
